With high winds and red flag warnings in effect, a small fire forced the evacuation of at least two schools near Centre Pointe Parkway in Canyon Country, before being put out this afternoon.
The fire which broke out near Soledad Canyon Road and Gladding Way just before 2 p.m. burned at least five acres before being extinguished at 3:30 p.m.
Los Angeles County Fire Department officials were on scene battling the blaze with the assistance of aircraft assigned to fight the blaze.
Officials were forced to evacuate more than 60 children from an adjacent pre-school and 200 students from Bowman High School.
The Santa Clarita Metrolink station was closed for a short time.
Bowman High School’s afternoon and evening classes have been canceled.
