SANTA CLARITA – Seeking to keep their undefeated season alive, the College of the Canyons Woman’s soccer team was looking to do so against the Cosumnes River Hawks on Saturday.
The Cougars not only accomplished this, but they did it with a killer instinct, in their 3-0 victory.
COC (5-0-1) started off the game with a bang, with Jessica Weber scoring in the 8th minute.
The Hawks (1-5) could not seem to get their offense going, as they did not land any shots on goal, due to the stellar play of the Cougars’ defense.
After a lot of pressure put on the Hawks goalkeeper, Joana Hernandez, the Cougars answered with another goal in the 34th minute.
This time it was by Alexandra Leon, but she wasn’t finished just yet.
Shortly after the 2nd half started, Leon landed her second goal of the game in the 47th minute.
That goal made the score 3-0, Cougars.
With the Cougars playing exceptional defense, they held that lead to win the game.
“I think I just put in more effort than I usually would, because I knew I wanted to score against this team,” said Leon after her two goal effort, which puts her total to 3 goals on the season.
The Cougars next test will be at home Tuesday, Sept. 18, against Moorpark City College at 7:30 p.m.
