College students should play golf this summer

VALENCIA – Summer is just around the corner and is the perfect time to try something new and fun. With weather already in full swing for a warm summer, many wonder what they can do to utilize their time off and the outdoors that doesn’t hurt their wallet. Many students may not know this, but golf is a great way to have a good time with your friends while enjoying the summer weather and the spare cash they’ll save.

While golf by itself may not sound appealing, it is meant for those who love a mix of exercise, mental focus, and the outdoors. With your own set (or a friend’s set) of clubs, golfing opportunities are endless in California, with literally over a thousand different courses in the state.

Even golf employees active and retired believe that it is a sport young adults can get involved with. Former golf course pro shop employee Christopher Hughes said that golfing with your friends is “more fun than going [with your friends] to hang out at a bar” and even puts it above casual bowling as an activity.

If you are unsure about playing, Hughes stated that, “anybody that’s halfway interested should at least [try playing] and I think that they’ll appreciate it.”

The former golf “jock”, as Hughes liked to put it, suggests that Valencia’s public golf course, Vista Valencia, is a great place for the up and coming player to learn the sport. The course is open every day from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
