The local newspaper, the Signal, has been delivering the news to the Santa Clarita Valley’s residents’ doorsteps for over ninety years. Social media and online news have changed journalism forever, and older mediums are struggling to keep up. Newsflow is almost instantaneous; journalists and readers, many of these newspapers, like the Signal, have to make changes to appeal to online readers, as well as maintain the traditional essence found in print.
Chief Multimedia Officer, Vince Johnson, is including more online and interactive elements to make The Signal a more multimedia company. Johnson wants to have more videos on its website, the-signal.com. He also intends to include shows about local news, prep sports, entertainment, new businesses, food reviews and much more in The Signal’s repertoire. Last week, a new show, Scene SCV, debuted on The Signal’s website with a feature on the recent Cowboy Festival. Also, a new show spotlighting Santa Clarita’s prep sports teams will premiere on May 1st.
