The Cougars went into the 9th with a 3-1 lead and John Salas looking for the complete game but a rally ended that hope as the Glendale went on to win 4-3.
Salas in his first start since retuning from a back injury cut short his last start. Salas surrendered the first run in the second Julian Jarrad double into left field and it scored Ruben Padilla. Salas also pitched his way out of back to back jams in the 3rd and the 4th. Salas only mistake was in the 9th when Anthony Esparza hammers a ball over the left field fence to tie the game up. Icezack Flemming came in relief and allowed a double that flies over the head on Conor Garelick to Matt McCallister that scored Chris Stroh.
Head coach Chris Cota said of Salas performance:
“He pitched well all day he kept us in the game, he pitched with the lead most of the time, we got him out of there in a three to three tie in the ninth and he pitched well and we’re proud of him.”
The Cougars scored two runs in the bottom second when James Bonds doubled to left center to score Jake Jelmini from second. The next batter Kevin Lenik bounces one back to the second baseman to score Garelick. Lenik also had a sacrifice bunt in the 8th that scored Jelmini
On the game Cota said:
“Well it came down to us not being able to execute offensively, when you have runners at second and third and no outs with the one, two, and three hitters comming up and you get none out of it it is not a good sign.”
