College of the Canyons Ice Hockey team is in New Jersey with one goal in mind – to repeat as ACHA Division III National Champions. Entering the National Tournament, the Cougars finished their season with a 20 win season, with only 7 loses. All of those loses were to teams in a higher division.
Davenport opened the scoring early in the first period, scored by defensemen, Garrett Garber 8 minutes into the period. Davenport would go on to score 5 goals before Cougars captain, Brian Voogt buried the puck behind Davenport goaltender, John Cruse. Voogt’s goal came at 12:11 in the second period. Davenport would answer before the end of the period. Third period action started with Brian Voogt’s second goal of the night registering with just 3:22 into the third period. Davenport’s Mike Soto, led the scoring for the Panthers. Soto, recorded three points( 2g, 1a) in his first game. Soto would later on be named as the game’s MVP.
The College of the Canyons ice hockey team played their first game today against Davenport University. The Cougars high-powered offense led by Brian Voogt were held to only two goals in their first game, both scored by Voogt. Davenport University started their scoring frenzy early in the first period, forcing goaltender Taylor Speasak to make plenty of saves – he faced 46 shots making 38 saves.
The Cougars will face Robert Morris University at 1:00 p.m. EDT.
