A Leona Valley man was killed in Castaic Monday morning after his car collided with a utility vehicle.

The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as Tyler Matthew Lynch, 20.

CHP officials say the crash on Lake Hughes Road was reported at 6:56 a.m., when a patrol officer noticed smoke pluming from an area near Castaic Lake.

First responders found an overturned Ford F-350 utility vehicle bearing a Los Angeles County Public Works seal engulfed in flames, and a silver Honda Civic at the bottom of a nearby embankment.

Investigators say Lynch’s vehicle was traveling westbound on Lake Hughes Road when it crossed into opposing traffic lanes and struck the oncoming public works vehicle head-on.

The collision tossed the Honda over an adjacent guard rail where it continued to travel until it came to a rest at the bottom of the ridge.

Lynch was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the utility vehicle had complaints of minor injuries.

The accident is still under investigation.
