COC Athletic Director Chuck Lyon and COC Athletics Dean Len Mohney hosted a special meeting last week regarding the future of tennis as a new team sport at College of the Canyons.
“We’re very excited and we definitely want a tennis team here on campus,” said COC Athletics Dean Len Mohney
But the state’s budget crisis may throw a wrench into any immediate funding.
Since COC opened in 1969, several sports have been showcased, but not tennis.
Although Lyon would like to see COC’s tennis courts come to life, it won’t come at the expense of current sports programs.
“We’re most likely to start cutting back on sports, and reduce spending,” said Lyon.
Lyon says while reducing budgets is a priority, the school has no immediate plan to eliminate any sport.
