In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness month the 8th annual Bras for a Cause event hosted by Soroptimist International of Santa Clarita Valley was held on Sun Oct 2nd at the Oaks Grille in the Tournament Players Club in Valencia.
This year’s event featured a western-style theme and included a silent auction of more than 30 imaginative custom bras and gift baskets.
All proceeds from the event were donated to local women’s support organizations like Circle of hope Inc. a local clinic that provides financial, emotional, and educational support services for uninsured Santa Clarita residents with breast cancer.
Club Vice President Brenda Videgain explained why she was involved in the event,
“Bras for a cause raises money for women who cannot afford their mammograms or their co-pays and we donate the money to local non-profit [clinics] like circle of hope… It’s for a good cause and more and more young girls need to get tested because [breast cancer] can kill you but it can be prevented.”
In addition to the silent auction this year’s event featured three bra models who participated in a traditional ‘live’ auction for prospective bidders.
With more than more than 90,000 members in 124 countries Soroptimist International is world largest women’s organization and is dedicated to helping women and promoting women’s rights.
