The College of the Canyons Faculty Association Representative Council representing 184 full time faculty, has endorsed Diana Shaw and Scott Wilk for seats on the Board of Trustees. Seats 2, 4 and 5 are up for election in November.
Scott Wilk who is being opposed by Patrick Douglas Hill, holds Seat 5 on the board and served as President of the board in 2010. He was first appointed to the board on Aug. 23, 2006. Wilk was also a former district director for Congressman Howard “Buck” McKeon.
The COCFA said Wilk is the more favorable choice based on the strength of his representative voice, and his commitment to fiscal soundness. Wilk has said publicly due to the state’s ongoing budget problems, he opposed raises for Administrators this past summer.
Diana Shaw who will be attempting to upend Bruce Fortine is a practicing attorney and was a candidate in last year’s California 38th District Assembly election. She has worked as an entertainment industry lawyer working with the Screen Actors Guild and the Writer’s Guild of America.
The COCFA said it appreciates Fortine’s 40 years of service to the college, but with new budgetary. academic, and campus climate challenges ahead, Shaw is a better option.
One other board member, Michele Jenkins is running unopposed.
