The City of Santa Clarita held its seventeenth annual River Rally event on Saturday, September 17. This year’s location was at the river bed off of Wiley Canyon Road, right next to the Via Princessa bridge. Several hundred volunteers helped clean up the river.
After the clean-up, volunteers were welcomed inside the tent to learn about various conservation tips from several organizations including Placerita Nature Center, Santa Clarita Sheriffs Department, Waste Management, all of the water agencies that provide water to the Santa Clarita Valley and many other organizations. Many booths gave away useful items including pencils, notepads and rulers all made from recycled materials. Outside the tent Starbucks, Krispy Kreme Donuts, Whole Foods and a Hawaiian Shaved ice cart were present, giving away refreshments to the volunteers.
This year’s River Rally yet again proved to be a success, removing approximately eight tons of trash from the river bed.
