Summer break may have ended, but the Associated Student Government made sure to continue the fun by hosting a welcome back barbecue in the Honor Grove on Tuesday, August 30, 2011.
To kick off the school year, students enjoyed hot dogs, hamburgers, cotton candy and hula hooping, courtesy of ASG. Even COC Chancellor, Dr. Dianne Van Hook stopped by to join in on the fun.
Along with free food and prizes, faculty members Joe Romero and Doug Forbes performed with their band, The Sound Waves as the live entertainment for the afternoon.
Volunteers from ASG as well as Board of Trustees member, Bruce Fortine dished out delicious barbecue, while ASG Executive Vice President of Activities, Raveena Gill was in charge of the cotton candy machine.
“We were just talking about doing an event that would become annual, so this is our first attempt at it. ASG always end with a bang, but you know we should start with one too,” said Gill.
Students seemed pleased with this new tradition, as they continued to line up long after the barbecue was set to end.
ASG has plenty planned in the future for students here at COC. To find out more information on events check back with Cougar News Online.
