Canyon Country – College of the Canyon’s Canyon Country campus is embarking on an educational and training program with the grand opening of the new Applied technologies center.

The Applied technologies center focuses on hands-on training for four technology departments. They include Water Systems technology, Automotive Technology, Plumbing Technology, and Alternative/ Solar Energy.

The Ribbon-Cutting ceremony was Thursday afternoon under California’s bright sun.

Introductions were kicked off by Michele Jenkins the President of the Santa Clarita Community College District Board of Trustees, which was then followed by a speech about the Power of Partnerships by CCC advisory committee member Mr. Richard Sathre. Then the Chancellor of the Santa Clarita Community College Dr. Dianne G. Van Hook took the podium to commemorate the first permanent structure at the Canyon Country Campus.

Recognitions were also handed out to Dr. Van Hook in part from the California State Senate and U.S.Congressman Buck Mckeon.

Started through community support, the four major programs are aimed at training students for work in industry.

The new facility was founded through measure M, a 160 million dollar bond approved in 2006 by Santa Clarita Valley voters. The Applied technologies Center houses cutting edge equipment that mirrors the work setting and provides an unparalleled educational experience.

With the rapid growth and expansion of College of the Canyons, the college has been able to fund the Applied Technologies Center, which the school hopes will serve as a guide towards a positive boost for a sluggish economy.
