Valencia – College of the Canyons released its Men’s Soccer schedule for the upcoming 2011 season. The Cougars are coming off their most impressive season in school history finishing with a 17-6-2 overall record and a 9-3-2 record in conference play, including winning their last seven straight games to make it into the Southern California Regional Playoffs. The Cougars made an impressive run throughout the playoffs defeating Palomar 3-0 in the first round at home. The second round saw COC knock off the number three seeded Cerritos Falcons 2-1 in a big upset for the Cougars to set up a rematch against number one seeded Santa Ana College. COC struggled early on against the Dons as they trailed 1-0 with seven minutes left when lighting struck not once, not twice but three times for the Cougars to go on to knock off Santa Ana 3-1 to advance to the State Championship Finals held at College of the Canyons. COC came out of the gates strong against Fresno City College in the first game scoring all three goals in the first twenty six minutes to advance to the State Championship game against the defending champions Mt. San Antonio College. The dust would run out on the Cinderella story in 2010 as the men suffered a tough loss 4-0 in front of there home fans at COC.

COC will see a very similar non conference schedule in 2011 as 2010. They will have rematches against Victor Valley, Consumnes River, Chaffey, and Santa Ana. Of those four teams the Cougars only loss came at the hands of Santa Ana 4-1 at COC but the Cougars returned the favor in the playoffs 3-1 at Santa Ana.

Looking at what the potential roster could look like in 2011 should bring a smile to your face as it could lead to a return trip to the State Championship game and possibly a win. The Cougars will lose four key contributors on offense including All-American Andres Bueno, Jorge Serrano, Sebastian Toro, and Brooks Walsh. COC will have freshman goalie Alex Burkevics back in 2011 along with key defenders including Emmauel Padron, Vincent Donado, and Jose Reyes.
