The Hart Softball team went through its ups and downs as it was able to earn a 4th seed in the CIF Playoffs. The Indians went strong through the preseason, but hit a bump in the road as they took 4th place in the Foothill League. They had a 19-11 overall record with a 5-5 record in league play. The Indians were just 3 games away from taking first place in Foothill.
As their season came to a close against Simi Valley, Hart keep their heads high as they have 9 returning players coming back next year. Tracy Chandless and Jessica Jones highlight this group of returners as they have been on Varsity for 3 years, but pitching seems to be the concern as Senior Emili Escamilla is departing. “We really need our pitchers to step up,” said Assistant Indians Head Coach Tim.
Hart also is losing 4 other starters, but the Indians Coach is still excited for the future, “We’ve got some kids in place that we think can step up and play those positions.”
With Jones and Chandless returning, both players feel like they need to take their game to the next level to return Hart to prominence. “I feel as if I need to step up as leader and help lead our team get to the top,” said Jones.
Jones and Chandless are going to be the focal point on offense and defense, as they look to fill other holes around the team. Jones seems to believe in the team as they look forward to next season, “…If we have heart, I think we can get pretty far.”
Hart Softball will begin training this upcoming winter in preparation for the 2012 Spring Season. Look for the Indians to create some noise in Foothill next year.
