The musical adaptation of the popular 80’s movie starring Kevin Bacon will be coming to the Canyon Theatre Guild at the end of this month.
“Footloose: the Musical” is a play set in the 80’s that includes all the signature music, style, attitudes and dance moves of the time.
It depicts the story of a big-city boy, “Ren McCormack”, who moves to the small, religious town of Bomont, where it is against the law to dance.
Ren struggles throughout the play to be accepted by his peers, and enlighten the townspeople of the joys that may come about by the allowance of dancing and celebrations.
Raymond Castro plays the rebellious “McCormack”, who convinces the town that dancing is not a “crime,” and captures the heart of “Ariel Moore”, the reverend’s independent daughter, played by Mary Grace Wilson.
With love ballads such as “Almost Paradise,” and the hit title song “Footloose,” it would be hard to resist coming and seeing the play directed by Leslie Berra and choreographed by Rena Bailey-Barrett.
Performances are Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 p.m. on May 28, June 4, 10,11, 17,18, 24 and 25 Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. on May 29, June 5,12,18,19 and 25.
