The College of the Canyons baseball team had its season come to an end today with a 5-3 loss to Southwestern in a play-in game for the California Community College Baseball Southern California Playoffs.
The No. 18 seeded Cougars trailed the 15 seeded Jaguars 3-0 until scoring two runs in the top of the fifth inning. The comeback wouldn’t be enough for COC as Southwestern was able to hold on and keep its season alive.
The Cougars earned itself a chance to contend in the playoffs by finishing the season with a 21-15 overall record and a 12-9 conference record. COC made a strong push towards the end of the season winning six of its last seven games. They tied for second with Pierce and Citrus in the Western State Conference, South Division.
Southwestern finished its regular season in third place in the Pacific Coast Conference with a 14-11 record and 21-15 overall. They will now travel to either No. 1 Rio Hondo or No. 2 Chaffey depending on the outcome of the other play-in game between No. 17 Pierce and No. 16 Citrus.
