Queen Mary and Queen Victoria – the ships, not the monarchs – briefly crossed paths at Long Beach Harbor.
The two ships exchanged whistle salutes during a fireworks display at the harbor. The Queen Victoria, a cruise ship liner, made its way to Long Beach on a voyage through the Panama Canal to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
The Queen Mary was retied as cruise liner in 1967. It was purchased by the City of Long Beach to become a hotel and tourist attraction.
