College of the Canyons Art Gallery is exhibiting the works of high school students and their instructors. About 70 works including drawings, paintings, sculptures, and pottery pieces are on display from six local high schools.
The artist reception will be held Tuesday, March 15, 2011 from 5pm-7pm with refreshments and an opportunity to meet the artists. “It’s an opportunity for potential incoming students to see the gallery. It also inspires high school (art) students in their career path,” said Larry Hurst, COC Art Gallery director. The college did not set any requirements on the exhibit leaving the selection of works to the high school instructors. The high school exhibit is held every other year.
Parents, teachers, family, and friends are expected to attend the reception which is open to the public. Through art, the college is connecting community through this creative “cross-marketing” event. “It’s going to be a madhouse,” quips Larry Hurst. The high energy is seen in the wide variety of works from portraits to paintings. All are welcomed to the unveiling at the artists reception. The high school exhibit is held every other year, so don’t miss meeting the high school artists Tuesday March 15th.
