Santa Clarita council member Frank Ferry, 45, was released from Providence Holy Cross Medical Center earlier this week, according to city spokeswoman Gail Ortiz.
Ferry had been hospitalized since December 3 after complications from pancreatic surgery he had on November 30 to remove a cyst. He also serves as principal of Bishop Alemany High School in Mission Hills.
Toxins had entered his kidneys not long after the original procedure, which led to an infection. The month-long recovery was a slow process that included cutting back medication as well as walking on his own again.
Though he is not currently accepting visitors, Ferry asked that those wishing to send gifts donate money instead to Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center.
Ferry, who has been a council member since 1998, was re-elected this past April by narrowly defeating candidate David Gauny.
