After four seasons as the head coach of Canyon High football, Chris Varner has resigned from his post effective immediately.
Varner, whose squad finished with a career best 10-2 record this season, is leaving to spend more time with his family.
He finished with a 21-22 record, and only one winning season, but led the Cowboys this year to second place in the Foothill League and a second-round appearance in the CIF-Southern Section Northern Division playoffs.
Varner took over the varsity football team at Canyon after Harry Welch resigned in 2007. The school has not yet named a replacement.
