Dr. Andrew Jones-Cathcart, Philosophy Professor at College of the Canyons has the drive for education in his blood. His father was a college librarian and several family members are teachers. Dr. Jones-Cathcart became interested in reading at a very young age and through the years found those teachers, who he liked as people, to be his role models.
The greatest achievement came when Dr. Jones-Cathcart obtained his Master’s Degree and PhD in philosophy. A substitute teacher, whose teaching style he really enjoyed, was the reason he chose philosophy initially and then quickly fell in love with the subject. “Philosophy is the mother of all sciences,” said Dr. Jones-Cathcart. It deals with logic and critical thinking, which is very fascinating.
Prior to studying philosophy, Dr. Jones-Cathcart considered studying either history or biology and became very interested in stem cell research. His admiration for Socrates and Plato, who greatly influenced the chain ideas of philosophy, soon took his interests in a different direction.
