Updated at 10:34 PM – A stabbing occurred at Hart High School in Newhall today when two female students got into an altercation during lunch. According to one student, the stabbing was due to an apparent dispute over a relationship. The student also stated that the victim was stabbed with a long kitchen knife just below the left shoulder. She is in stable condition at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital.
“I saw people running, it was a very hectic and scary situation,” said freshman Brittany Bradley.
The stabbing which occurred at approximately 12:40 p.m. put the school in lockdown for the remainder of the school day and students were not released early.
“We all heard the yelling and screaming but it’s life, there is nothing anyone can do about it,” said junior Allee Jimenez.
Counselors will be available tomorrow for any student who feels the need to talk about today’s dispute. “I was really shocked,” said sophomore Melissa Gonzalez. “It’s horrible, how can someone do that?”
The subject was detained at the scene and was booked at Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station for attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon, knife.
As of 1:30 PM –Hart High School is in lockdown, after a stabbing during lunchtime left one student hospitalized and another in custody.
Officials at the school tell Cougar News that the female victim is in stable condition after being stabbed in the chest by another female student. Officials believe the incident is isolated and not gang related.
