College of the Canyons’ English department threw a promotional event Thursday in the honor grove to raise money and spread the word for the 4th annual edition of cul-de-sac, the school’s literary arts magazine.
As many as 400 students submit their art and literature in every year to the publication that is created solely by student work.
“We compile from start to finish submissions that then are selected by committees in my class,” said Alene Terzian, COC English professor who is the faculty advisor of the project.
The four committees are separated into: photo/art, music, poetry and fiction.
“They will sort through all of the submissions, and from week one to week 16, we create an entire literary journal highlighting all of the student work at COC.”
Live music and poetry filled the event as students came to express their creativity or munch on some baked goods. There was also a raffle with such prizes being given out like Nike shoes, gift certificates, and a Nintendo Wii.
Submissions for the journal are currently being accepted until October 11th and are limited to five pieces per student.
