After a one year hiatus, one of the major tune ups for the Tour De France will race through the streets of Santa Clarita next May.
The 2011 Amgen Tour will begin on May 15th in South Lake Tahoe and conclude with the 8th and final stage that runs from Santa Clarita to Thousand Oaks. This is the 3rd time the bike race has included the Santa Clarita Valley as part of the route.
The May 22nd date is three months later than 2009 when the world’s top cyclists raced from Santa Clarita to Pasadena. Last year race organizers moved the 800 mile race to May, to take advantage of better weather, and greater accessibility to showcase the nation’s most prominent cycling event in the higher elevations of California including Big Bear Lake.
The 2011 edition of the Amgen Tour will include 15 official stage start and finish communities including, South Lake Tahoe, Sacramento, Modesto, San Jose, Paso Robles, Solvang, Claremont and Santa Clarita. For a complete list of all cities and a map of the 2011 event, please visit the Amgen Tour website.
