Saturday marked the ninth anniversary of the terrorist attacks against the World Trade Center on September 11th. Santa Clarita Valley residents gathered at Central Park in order to remember the date. The event was titled a “Patriotic Prayer Day” and it lived up to its name. There were several prayers, songs, and speeches by guest speakers.
Hosting the event was Sheryl Reaves, a pastor at Fresh Fire Church in Santa Clarita. Joining Sheryl were different charities and organizations.
One organization was Prayer Angels for the Military, a non-profit organization that sends care packages and gifts to soldiers over seas. President Suzon Gerstel attended the event and spoke about their goal to be the middle man between the soldiers and those people who want to make donations.
Other guest speakers included Jerry Thomsen, a Los Angeles County Fireman, and president of Los Angeles County Fireman’s Benefit and Welfare. This group is the sponsor for the “Remember Reflect Renew” float in the 2011 Tournament of Roses Parade.
One of the military representatives was Tchicaya Missamou, a United States Marine and author, who was there as a motivational speaker and also signing copies of his new book, In The Shadow of Freedom: A Heroic Journey to Liberation, Manhood, and America.
The whole day was a moving experience, and a great way to remind those who attended just how important and meaningful the events were that happened just nine years ago.
