VALENCIA – The Drug Enforcement Agency is conducting a first-ever nationwide “Take-Back” event for prescription drugs this Saturday, September 25, from 10 A.M. until 2 P.M.
The free service will be held locally at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Valley Station at 23740 W. Magic Mountain Pkwy, Valencia, Calif. 91355.
It is a “no questions asked” event and is completely anonymous. However, illicit drugs and drug paraphernalia, such as marijuana and needles, will not be accepted.
“Prescription drug abuse is the Nation’s fastest-growing drug problem, and take-back events like this one are an indispensable tool for reducing the threat that the diversion and abuse of these drugs pose to public health,” said Director of National Drug Control Policy Gil Kerlikowske in the official press release.
According to the Department of Justice, many people are unaware of how to properly dispose of unused or expired prescription drugs. This may put children at risk of improper digestion of the medicine or set up others for abuse and even overdose.
