“Cal is very deserving of this award,” head coach Chris Cota said. “He worked very hard this season and was at the top of the state in some of the statistical categories. He was a reliable hitter and could always make something happen.”
In 34 games Vogelsang was second on the team in hitting behind Hugo Hernandez with a batting average of .380. He led the team in home runs with 11 and RBI’s with 35. His 11 home runs ranked 4th in the state of California. Cal ranked 9th in the state with 102 total bases and 11th in slugging with a .718 slugging percentage.
The Cougar baseball team had seven players named All-Western State Conference players. Hugo Hernandez, Cal Vogelsang, Nico Moreno, and Tyler Pugmire were named first-team all conference players. Joe Perez, Sean Gavin, and Brian Kernochan were named honorable mentions.
The Cougars finished the season with a disappointing overall record of 18-16 and 12-9 in conference, good for fourth place.
