The Los Angeles County, Department of Public Works, and the Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County will host the Household Hazardous Waste and E-waste Roundup Saturday, April 10, 2010 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm in the South parking lot at College of the Canyons. The event is open to all Los Angeles County residents, including the residents of Lancaster and Palmdale.
What is considered hazardous waste?
Brake fluid, paint, paint thinner, cleaners with acid or lye, pesticides, herbicides, household batteries, car batteries, pool chemicals, motor oil, oil filters, expired pharmaceuticals, anti-freeze, and fluorescent light bulbs.
What is considered e-waste?
Household electronic waste: computer monitors, televisions, computer CPUs, keyboards, printers, and cell phones.
What is not accepted at the roundup?
Hazardous waste and electronic waste from businesses, explosives, ammunition, radioactive materials, trash, tires, refrigerators, stoves, washing machines, or controlled substances.
On the day of the event residents are to bring the items in a sturdy box and be prepared to leave the containers or boxes. Hazardous waste cannot exceed 15 gallons or 125 pounds. Participants are allowed to make as many trips as they want to the roundup on the day of the event.
