Taking the time to know COC Dance Instructor Phylise Smith , we got a closer look on who she is as a teacher and as a person.
Becoming a dancer was not that easy for Smith. She had many obstacles to overcome.
Although her family wanted Smith to be a lawyer, she still never gave up on her dream of becoming a dancer.
After dancing at Pierce and later at Harvard, friends and acquaintances started to see Smith’s real passion and encouraged her to get a full time job at COC.
From modern dance to jazz and even to East and West African dance, Smith has become more and more passionate about her profession.
Smith not only gets paid for something she loves, equally rewarding is the impact she is making on her students lives.
