Portraits, paintings, pottery and many more works of art are prominently displayed by Santa Clarita high school students and their instructors at the College of the Canyons Art Gallery.

“Judging from this exhibit, the Hart District has no intentions of cutting its art programs,” said William. S. Hart District Director, Robert Challinor. An artist reception honored selected art students from six local high schools. Instructors from Bowman, Canyon, Golden Valley, Saugus, Valencia, and West Ranch high schools selected outstanding students works to be exhibited alongside their own works. The reception was a celebration of all the art presented from the schools without competition or judging.

The artists who attended the reception were given an opportunity to discuss and share their work. College of the Canyons Art Gallery director, Larry Hurst, said about 300 people attended the reception and that it was a win/win for the high schools, the college, and for the community.

The art work will be exhibited now through April 7th. The COC Art Gallery is open Monday through Thursday from 10:30am to 5:00pm. For more information, visit the Art Gallery’s website.

This segment will also air on SCVTV (Time Warner channel 20) during the SCV-Arts & Entertainment broadcast.
