Two College of the Canyons soccer players, Larry Guizar and Juan Morales, signed letters of intent with Kansas Wesleyan on Monday afternoon.

Guizar and Morales became the sixteenth and seventeenth players to sign with Kansas Wesleyan since 2004. They will join former COC men’s soccer player Casey Scott who signed with Kansas Wesleyan last year and redshirted the 2009 season for the Coyotes.

Both Morales and Guizar credit Scott for their intention to attend Kansas Wesleyan.

“Casey recommended the school and it’s cause of him that I’m going there,” said Guizar.

Midfielder Larry Guizar played for two seasons with the Cougars in 2007 and 2009. The Saugus graduate had six goals and two assists and earned First-Team All-Conference honors for his sophomore season.

“Larry is a very physical athlete, very strong, very good defensively, he has an unbelievable shot, it’s a cannon of a shot. I’m very excited that he gets the chance to continue playing,” said COC men’s soccer head coach Phil Marcellin.

Goalkeeper Juan Morales was the Cougars keeper for 2008 and the start of the 2009 season until injuring his quadriceps muscle.

“It was a very painful thing for him to take on that roll as a backup, but he took on that role and worked hard every day in training, his character is a good example of the team as well as his work ethic,” said Marcellin.

Kansas Wesleyan is a member of the NAIA and finished with a 14-4-3 overall record and went 7-1-1 in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference.
