Pierre Etienne is a French professor and French program director at College of the Canyons

“I have a sense of adventure,” says the French native. Pierre has taught French at  many universities and colleges including the University of Texas and the University of Puerto Rico.

It was a trip he took to California to visit his brother, however, that made him want to stay here.

Professor Etienne had not planned on staying in the United States to teach; his plans included returning to France. The adventurous professor loved the U.S. so much, that he completely switched gears and decided to further his career here. Pierre is very passionate about film, and organizes the International Film Festival every year here at C.O.C.

“I thought it would be nice to show more international films here on campus,” he says.

For the past 8 years he has given COC students the opportunity to view such films and enrich their minds. Professor Etienne returns to France about twice a year, and hopes to retire there. He speaks five languages.
