The Santa Clarita Domestic Violence Center is set to hold the Purple Walk of Strength 2016 to raise awareness about domestic violence and local resources for families.

The walk is modeled after the ‘Color Run’, but instead of being shaded by multiple colors throughout the run, participants will be shaded purple.

Purple is the designated color of Domestic Violence Awareness Month and is modeled after the Purple Heart given to those who have been wounded while serving in the military, representing survivors of domestic violence who are wounded emotionally and physically.

For survivors, the color purple also provides hope for peace, courage, survival and dedication to ending the violence.

The Purple Walk will take place at the College of the Canyons track and field stadium on Saturday, Oct. 22. Registration is expected to begin at 7:00 a.m. and the walk is set to follow at 9:00 a.m.

Those who want to participate will also be able to register online at the Domestic Violence Center website.

Online registration is $20 while registering at the event will cost $25. However, group discounts are available.

The first 300 people to register will receive a shirt to wear at the walk, but those who do not receive a shirt are encouraged to wear a white shirt.

Once registered email the email the completed registration/sponsorship forms to admin@dvc-scv.org, or fax them to 661-259-1194.
