VALENCIA – History repeated itself Friday night at the Cougar Cage.

The College of the Canyons Lady Cougars took down the Mt. San Jacinto Lady Eagles in front of their home crowd for the third time in the last four years, 88-73.

Sophomore guard Dominique Turner led the Cougars with 21 points and 7 assists, but the big story of the night was the shooting performance of freshman guard Beverly Weaver who scored 19 points off the bench going 4-6 from the three point line in the second round of the Southern California Regional Playoffs.

The first half was no indication that the Cougars (23-7, 11-1) would win by fifthteen points as it was a back and forth game through most of the second half. Turner started the scoring for COC with two early layups to give COC a 4-0 lead. It wouldn’t last long as the Eagles came right back to regain the lead at 6-4. The Eagles were led in the first half by sophomore stand out Danielle Cooper who finished with 20 of her 29 points in the first half.

COC led by as much as 9 early but Mt. San Jacinto (21-9, 11-3) would come right back every time and had a 7 point lead of their own. The game continued to go back and forth until late second half when COC started to pull away.

Tinky Dahte scored 17 points, Jazzmyn Davis had 14 points and 13 rebounds, and point guard Kelli Lewis scored 12 points with 8 coming in the second half.

The Cougars earned a seven seed in the Southern California Regional Playoffs after finishing the season with a 22-7 overall record and an 11-1 conference record capturing their sixth straight Western State Conference, Southern Division.

The Lady Cougars will now advance to the third round of the playoffs at San Bernardino on March 2, at 7 pm.
