Valencia Boulevard was closed between McBean Parkway and Citrus Street from 1:00 AM to 5:00 AM Friday morning as Sheriff’s investigators try to reconstruct the fatal car accident that left one dead and several others injured on Sunday.

According to witnesses, a white Infinity traveling east down Valencia allegedly ran a red light and collided with a Dodge Durango that was turning left at Mall Entrance.  The collision sent the Infiniti into a crowd of people watching the fireworks display at the Westfield Town Center.  43 year old Newhall resident, Matilde Garnica, was declared dead on the scene. Her 13 year old son was airlifted to Childrens Hospital Los Angeles in critical condition.  A second injured son was treated and released at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital.  As many as 7 others sustained injuries including a 4 year old girl that was taken to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in critical condition.

Tests confirm that neither driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.  No arrests have been made.
