Proving the saying that “War is nine-tenths boredom, one-tenth sheer terror”, US soldiers deployed to Afghanistan sent a bit of fun back home. A few soldiers spent their free time creating a parody/re-enactment of Lady Gaga’s “Telephone” video.

While the video was originally intended solely for the troops’ family and friends, it has since received massive viewership on YouTube, with 200,000 views recorded since the video’s posting on April 23. This number continues to climb as more people share the video with their friends.

The video is an enjoyable parody, even if you haven’t seen the original. Aaron Melcher, a soldier and the director of the video, posted this note when publishing the video:

“This is a couple guys located in Afghanistan, that re-made the music video by Lady Gaga….Telephone. Prepare yourself for a fantastical journey. Right now this is the temporary version, we have more scenes to cut, and edit, however with guys always on mission it is harder to film than you think.”

Within the day since the clip began gaining attention on the Internet, Melcher wrote on his Facebook page, saying that the video was made for “a couple of our friends and family and you can see that it has blown up way more than that…nobody in the video would like any further media coverage.”
