Michael Dean Stephens has been sentenced to 17 years to life in prison for the 2007 murder of Canyon Country resident Joshua Pipho.

A San Fernando Superior Court judge also sentenced Stephens to an additional 6 years after pleading no contest to a separate attempted murder charge stemming from the altercation between Pipho and Stephens.

In a November 2007 incident, Stephens and Pipho were involved in a brawl outside an apartment complex in Stevenson Ranch. As Pipho and a friend, Chad Weitz, were leaving the scene, Stephens repeatedly stabbed Pipho and Weitz before he ran Pipho over with his vehicle. Pipho died at the scene while Weitz survived the attack.

Stephens will serve both sentences consecutively and will not be eligible for parole until 2034.

Stephens was also ordered to pay $7,500 to the California Victims Compensation Program and an undisclosed amount to Pipho’s family.
