5.4 Earthquake Rattles Southland

6:05 PM PST:

The quake, which lasted 30 to 35 seconds, occurred on the San Jacinto Fault Line.  Officials from the US Geological Survey say that the earthquake was not an aftershock from the 7.2 magnitude earthquake that was centered in Calexico on Easter Sunday.

5:14 PM PST:
The initial magnitude 5.9 quake has been downgraded to a magnitude 5.4 by the US Geological Survey.

4:57 PM PST:
A magnitude 5.9 earthquake struck at approximately 4:53 PM PST, centered 28 miles south of Palm Springs, CA.
