Friday Night at the Screening Room

College of the Canyons offers a number of programs to the community, but nothing quite like Friday Night at the Screening Room. Every semester the Cinema Department at College of the Canyons teams up with the community to present a series of newer, contemporary foreign films for free in Hasley Theater 101.

As the program wraps up this semester, Cinema Department Chair Gary Peterson stresses the importance of cinematic exposure in our community. “‘Movies that never make it to Santa Clarita’ is our little tagline” Peterson stated.

The films that the program presents can be eye-opening and a bit foreign to some. The program has been so popular over the past three years that the Cinema Department is considering double features next semester. Possibly one film at 7:00 pm and another film at 10:00 pm.

The final three films this semester include: CoCo Before Chanel (Saturday, May 8th at 7:00 pm), An Education (Friday, May 14th at 7:00 pm), and The Room (Friday, May 14th at 10:00 pm).

Fall Semester 2010 films:

Skin

A Serious Man

Broken in Braces

White Ribbon

The Last Station

Se Numbre

The Prophet

Everlasting Moments

Mother

Fish Tank

A Single Man

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

Dates and times for these showings will be available in August.

I had heard that College of the Canyons had a free movie night, but I didn’t realize they played these different kind of movies that don’t make it to the SCV. I love going to see movies, and the idea of seeing something a little different interests me. I’ll have to check this out!
