Habitat for Heroes, the local Santa Clarita Valley, branch of the Habitat for Humanity program, held a fundraising comedy show, at the Real Life Church in Santa Clarita, Calif., on May 18, 2012.

All  of the proceeds will go in the renovation of the American Legion Post 57 in Newhall, a building that is believed to never have been remodeled since its opening in 1940 by William S. Hart, as a silent movie theater.

The comedy show featured the three Standup Guys: Robert G. Lee, Kenn Kington and Bob Smiley. Honor guest veteran Renard Thomas of the College gave spectators an insight into what a veteran’s life is, upon returning home from duty. Thomas, “Veterans Affairs” certifying official at College of the Canyons, First Lieutenant Active California National Guard with 15 years combined Active Army, Army Reserve, and National Guard duty, shone some light on the importance of such a mission in SCV.

The night raised $56,000, only $4,000 short of the cost of renovating Post 57.
