Homicide detectives arrested a man for murder, after the discovery of a dead person in a Valencia home.
“We have an individual in custody regarding that case,” said Sgt. Robert Gray, an investigator with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau.
Christian Ortiz, 21, of Valencia was taken into custody during the early morning hours of Sept. 25, Gray said.
He was charged with murder, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department arrest records.
Coroner’s officials identified the victim as 20-year-old Brayan “Brian” Jose Rodriguez, who was reported missing from the same area his body was found.
Deputies responded to the 23600 block of Via Valer at about 4:00 p.m. Sunday, Homicide Bureau Lt. Rodney Moore said.
“Upon their arrival they noticed a male hispanic adult not breathing, and he was pronounced dead at the scene,” he said.
Ortiz lived in the house Rodriguez’s body was discovered in, Gray said.
Rodriguez was last seen arguing with Ortiz at the latter’s residence, according to information released by the family.
Detectives have not released any information regarding a possible motive.
Rodriguez was a College of the Canyons graduate bound for the University of California San Diego, according to a statement from COC Chancellor Dr. Dianne Van Hook.
“College faculty, staff, and administrators fortunate enough to know Brian remember him not only as a bright, talented student, but as someone caring, humble and funny who easily made friends,” Van Hook said. “His death leaves a void in the Cougar Family, and in the many lives he touched at College of the Canyons and beyond.”
