When the Amgen Tour races through Santa Clarita in late May, it won’t be the final time local cycling fans will get to see the Tour de France style event. AEG, the owner and operator announced this week it has renewed its title sponsorship.

In addition, Coca-Cola, and United Health Care have also extended their sponsorship with the 11 year event.

The news is good considering, another major USA stage race, the USA Pro Challenge will not run this August in Colorado due to financial difficulties. The only other significant event that draws a similarly strong field is the Tour of Utah held in early August.

The Amgen Tour was founded in 2006 and Santa Clarita has hosted 11 stages with another on May 16th as the cyclists, race from Pasadena to Newhall. The tour later wraps up in Sacramento on May 22nd.

Amgen is one of the world’s leading biotechnology companies.
