College of the Canyons hosted “Drugs Kill” a conference which aimed to educate students and parents on the dangers of drug and alcohol addiction.
The event was hosted by Cary Quashen, an activist who has been clean and sober for over 20 years and the founder of Action Family Counseling, with the goal of educating people to make good choices and learn to cope in ways other than drugs and alcohol.
Over fifty-thousand people die every year from drug overdoses, according to Quashen. Which is why he has Krissy Mcafee come to speak at his events, Mcafee lost her son at the age of 24 due to a heroin over dose.
Many organizations were there with informational pamphlets such as The Salvation Army and Action Family Counseling, both which help to fight the underlying causes of addiction.
