Bloomberg reports that ESPN is in current negotiations with Apple, who might be bringing the WatchESPN app to the Apple TV.
WatchESPN is an app available for iPhone and iPads that grants current subscribers the ability to watch ESPN anywhere, anytime.
“We’re a platform-agnostic content company,” ESPN executive Sean Bratches said Tuesday. “To the extent that in the future there’s an opportunity with Apple to authenticate through the pay-TV food chain as we’re doing with Microsoft, that’s something that we will participate in.”
ESPN currently provides paying subscribers the ability to watch through Microsoft’s Xbox game console. Experts expect if the talks are successful, then the new Apple TV app will look and run similar to the Xbox’s version. Viewers woukd have all the same functions, such as the ability to watch two or more ESPN3 games simultaneously on your TV.
While spokesperson Amy Phillips is clear to point out, “we’re not having conversations with Apple about authenticating WatchESPN,” and that no deal is imminent.
