An underground water main broke this afternoon prompting officials to close McBean Parkway at Decoro Drive while crews work to excavate and repair the pipeline.

Water escaping from the broken line flooded the southeastern corner of the intersection and caused the ground above to weaken and buckle.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies shut down McBean Parkway between and Cottage and Skycrest Circles and deviated eastbound Decoro Drive traffic northbound onto McBean.

Crews plan to work through the night to repair the broken line and reconstruct the intersection.
