The College of the Canyons Cougars are just 2 wins away from becoming State Champions in soccer.

The sixth seeded Cougars have a tough road ahead. After a home win against No. 9 Palomar, the Cougars went on the road to upset No. 3 Cerritos and came roaring back against No. 2 Santa Ana, scoring 3 goals within the last 7 minutes of the game.  The season did not start off the way they wanted with 6 wins and 5 losses and 2 ties but an amazing 10 game win streak has led them to playing in the state finals.

The Cougars now have a distinct advantage over the other teams. The Championship is being held at COC in Cougar Stadium this year. Coach Philip Marcellin says “Its an advantage for us because we get to practice on this field. The only difference will be that we will be in our road whites and will be on the opposite side of the field.”

The Cougars will face the top seed team from the North, Fresno City College and will be the underdog for the third straight week. Assistant Coach Lucas Bongarra disagrees saying “At this point in the season there are no real underdogs”. Brooks Walsh agrees with the assistant coach by saying “If we play our game no one can beat us”.

The Cougars will face Fresno City at 1pm on Friday. There is an earlier game between Mount San Antonio College and  West Valley at 10am Friday. The winner of both games will face off at 10am Sunday at Cougar Stadium.
