It’s time to hit the stage and put your work to the test! College of the Canyons is asking aspiring writers to submit their work whether it’s monologues, scenes, 10-minute plays, single acts and full length two-act plays for a chance to be performed live on stage. The 11th annual New Works Festival (NWF) is giving you the chance to see your creative works be transformed from paper to the stage.

“In most theater it is the play that comes first,” said David Stears, NWF director and COC theater faculty member. This workshop is quite the opposite and focuses on supporting the playwrights in giving a vision to their writing.

Submissions do not have to be from COC students, but must be submitted by noon on Wednesday, November 10,2010 in the COC TLC lab located in Bonelli Hall, Room 209 at the Valencia campus.

The chosen works will be preformed and produced live on stage at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center (PAC) Black Box Theater during the spring 2011 semester. All submissions must be previously unproduced, unpublished, and solely the original work of the playwright. Scripts will be reviewed and selected by members of the COC theater and English departments.
