An entirely free carnival hosted by the Boys and Girls club was held at Newhall Park, in Santa Clarita on Saturday, September 25. “ Day for Kids” was generated to give the kids a chance to have fun, and celebrate being a kid. “We thought since Mother’s Day and Fathers Day had something, we would go to the city and make a day for kids, and that’s exactly what we did,” Jeremy O’Brien, Boys and Girls club member said.

The event is held all across the United States on the 3rd Saturday in September. The purpose is to bring families together and give the kids a day of fun. Families enjoyed carnival rides, games, food, crafts, raffles and entertainment all day long.

More than 70 local organizations participated in the event, providing free activities for kids and families. “We have a booth here today with a lot of our preschool teachers which they’re making some cool experiments and brought coloring and hula hoops and active play things, so we just wanted to come out here and celebrate”, Katie Freeman, owner of children’s enrichment center, Shooting Star said.

The event drew in close to 6,000 people and several sponsors including: The City of Santa Clarita, Sam’s Club, Walmart, Optima Graphics, Chase, Kustom Imprints, AMR, Heart of the Canyons Church, McDonald’s, Mountasia Family Fun Center, Six Flags Magic Mountain, Priority One and Westfield Valencia Town Center.
