Saugus Brush Fire Contained; Caused by Marijuana smoking

SAUGUS – A 43-acre brush fire that charred hillsides near the intersection of Haskell Canyon Road and Copper Hill Drive has been officially “knocked down”.

The blaze, reported around 2:00 PM this afternoon, threatened several homes and prompted residents in the Old Spanish Trail area to evacuate.

Two 14 year old boys were arrested this afternoon for suspicion of arson, after the one of the two admitted to accidentally starting the fire while lighting a marijuana pipe. The other was later released. Other details pertaining to the circumstances surrounding the arrest are still unclear.

Three other individuals were also arrested. Two of the three, a 16 year old male, and 33 year old Saugus resident Anthony Fierro, were arrested for interfering with fire containment efforts.
